Welcome to the Newsstands for Nonprofits Contest!

Newsstands for Non-Profits:

Newsstands transformed into works of art. Non-profit organizations face challenges every day, especially in this tough economic year. This summer 18 local non-profits received a unique challenge - to transform the box-like newspaper distribution stands into unique, fun, and creative pieces of art that reflect the uniqueness of Visalia. The non-profit organizations were asked to creatively depict an attribute or event that has made Visalia special over the past 150 years, as part of the Visalia Times-Delta’s 150th birthday celebration that kicked off June 25. As the Visalia Times-Delta approached its sesquicentennial landmark, it looked for a way to promote organizations that provide much needed community service every day. The Visalia Times Delta partnered with the Visalia Arts Consortium to invite the non-profits to decorate the newsstands as a means of collecting donations; and to share what they do, who they are, and what help they need, to raise community awareness. A four-page section with this information appeared in the Visalia Times-Delta on Saturday, July 11 and are available in the newstands themselves.

The transformed newsstands will be out for the public to view and vote on. Votes will be cast by putting money directly into the newsstands. All money received will go to the corresponding non-profit at the conclusion of the five-week program. Newsstands will be on display from July 20 to August 20.

They will rotate each week, five per location, among locations in the community, including:

Borders Books & Music,
Suncrest Bank,
the Visalia Times-Delta,
and Bank of the Sierra.

The Visalia Times-Delta is offering a very low advertising rate just for participating non-profits to use over the five weeks, to leverage this program for even greater awareness of what they do.

Online readers will also be invited to view a gallery of these special newsstands by going to visaliatimesdelta.com, starting July 18. In late August, at the close of the program, the newsstands will be permanently re-deployed to select locations, where they will resume their role as sales outlets of the Visalia Times-Delta.

So, we thank you for voting online, but please go out and see these great creations in person and show your appreciation by donating to these worth while Nonprofit organizations.
